Sensory integration therapy at the CDTC
To further improve the quality of our therapy facility, the team of the Curacao Dolphin Therapy Center did a further education in the field of sensory integration therapy in the time of 07.01.-18.01.2013. Our therapists successfully accomplished this education with the title “developmental specialist focus sensory integration”. The sensory integration therapy (SI) is a concept on a neurophysiological and neuropsychological base. The SI has been developed by Jean Ayres (USA) and is being used for the treatment of children with dysfunctions in the perception processing. The sensory integration is being implemented in the treatment of infants, toddlers and kids with motoric challenges, vestibular or tactile-proprioceptive hyper- / or hyposensitivity. Also functional based muscle disorders are being treated with the help of SI, which has a big influence on the body posture. The SI tries to treat children with sensomotoric deficiencies. The techniques used in the therapy improve the so-called sensory integration in the sensory perception. To the sensory perception system count systems like the tactile, vestibular and the visual system, to only name a few. In the therapy the child is getting the maximum support to successfully process sensory inputs in its brain. The therapist is supporting the child to absorb the different inputs, to transfer them to the brain, sort them in the most effective way and save them, so the child can adequately influence its surrounding. Our team enjoyed the further education very much. We thank our tutor Birgit Pammé who was conducting the further education and we are very much looking forward to introduce this new therapy approach to our patients!
In Loving Memory
Dear friends and families,
The Curaçao Dolphin Therapy and Research Center is very sad to announce the loss of our dolphin friend and colleague Li-Na. The last couple of weeks Li-Na was being treated by our veterinarian. She fought very hard to survive, but unfortunately she passed away on January 3rd.
We are very grateful for all the wonderful memories Li-Na gave us. We know how many hearts she touched. She will be missed and will stay in our hearts forever.

Unlocking Alex
Here is a documentary done about one of our Canadian patients who came to CDTC with her family this year. You can view "Unlocking Alex" through this link:

''Peter, Wendy, Alex, and Max Garish would like to express our gratitude to the CDTC and their staff, they
are without a doubt, the best thing that has happened to us as a family. We were able to see Alex's potential and would definitely
recommend this center to anyone wishing to discover the wonders of being around such dedicated people. Alex is non-verbal
and during our stay, she would sing 'I swim with dolphins' all day long, it was fantastic. If only we could change
the temperature in Canada, we would bring LI-NA and the rest of you home with us.''
